It's been awhile since I updated this blog. Part of that reason is that my knitting is going pretty well. I was really pleased with all my finished objects in 2016 and I'm taking a lot of pride in all I've accomplished in 2017. I guess I'm averaging about a project per month.
I made 3 pairs of mitts since Christmas to wear in Portland last March. I gave 2 pairs away. It was interesting to learn various thumb gussets and an i-cord cast-on. I've also done a bit of color work in the form of a scarf with a kind of intarsia on a scarf/shawl (Stephen West's Spectra). I also did fair-isle knitting on a mini-argyle tam. That tam is too small for me to wear, but was a good color work experience. Now I'm finally working on a garment for myself. It's a drapey tunic called "Mia." It is mostly endless stockinette on linen yarn.
I am still an avid appreciator of podcasts. I really love to catch several audio podcasts I'm going to mention now.
Actually Knitting is a peppy podcast out of Charlotte, NC. The knitter is a lady in her 30s who teaches high school. She also talks about books and cooking. These days, most knitters know about the Pussy Hat and how it is politically charged. This causes knitters to take a stand politically. The hosts, Michelle, has had to address it. Maybe coming out of NC, she is in contact with people who are not progressive. I look forward to this program.
Knitmore Girls is a long-running podcast that is hosted by a mother/daughter team in N. California. The daughter knits a lot for her young kids. The mom is around my age and knits preemie hats as well as socks and shawls. Gigi and Jasmin can really talk knitting as they have deep and vast knowledge about most any knitting topic.
I just got into Salty Jo. She's a single mother and a lawyer residing in Utah. SShe has a good voice and does interesting knitting. I have less patience for knitting pod casters who don't make interesting projects. I also don't like it so much when they spend a lot of time showing off skeins of yarn I may never have easy access to. Salty Jo reminds me that I like Knitty McPurly too. She is less knowledgeable but she's willing to try different projects. With audio podcasts, you don't see the things discussed, but via show notes, you can look at WIPS and FOs on Ravelry plus visit sites and sources online.
Plans I have for future knitting? I want to finally make socks that fit. I also want to knit a shawl for Sandra. I hope my current tank top fits and it will motivate me to make my winter sweater I've been kicking around since 2015. I also want to make a really cute hat with lots of cable details and a big pompon on the back. I am beginning to accumulate quite a few scraps, especially of sock yarn. I may try to make a Wurm hat with some as well as make a scrap blanket. Also I might be able to make socks with contrasting features.
Watch this space for future updates!
